Year 3

Classes

This will likely be your hardest year in terms of classes. They will not only require more work, but will also be conceptually harder. Many have multiweek projects, which you need to start early. Classes will take up more of your time, so you will need to be diligent to manage your time between classes, job applications, and projects. Read and Year 2 for more info on choosing classes.

Internships

Now is the most important time to apply for internships. It is much harder to get a job out of college if you have no prior experience. Most of the job application process is just a numbers game. This means that the more jobs you apply to, the more offers you’ll get. You should therefore apply to as many positions as you can, even if they aren’t exactly your first choice. Be picky after you get job offers, not before. To make it manageable, try applying to 2-3 jobs a day. Start in early fall, as most of the top companies close their applications by the end of the year. For more on internships, see job application resources.

Projects

You’ve taken many Computer Science classes, so you should now be ready for a more advanced project. Try making a multi step AI project, creating an App, making a useful open source contribution, or developing a comprehensive full-stack website. You should try for at least two substantial projects on your resume to show interest and expertise outside of college.
